Every expecting friend eventually asks me the same question: "What do I actually need for my baby?" And every time, I find myself saying, "let me think…"

When I was expecting, I asked everyone I knew what was actually worth it — and the advice was great, but it lived in a group chat that scrolled away within a week.

Now I have a toddler, and I'm the one getting asked. A friend just told me she's pregnant, and I want to hand her everything I learned — what to skip, what to splurge on, what I'd buy twice — but I'm the one scrolling back through old texts trying to find it.

Firstborn is the place I wish I'd had both times — somewhere to ask, and somewhere to finally give it all back.
